Facades

Wake up, dress up,
Walk, talk and wear a smile
Say hello and be polite

Speak, laugh, reciprocate
Good mornings and how-are-yous
I am good, how-about-yous?

Work tireless
Your own or sometimes others’ share
Something nobody would stand to care

Wear plastic smiles
And paper thin courtesy
Laughing inwardly at the absurdity

Grow facades
And hold them strong
Like you have been carrying them all along

They would gnaw at your insides
But you must hold on
You must hold on !!

    1. True that. Some do it purposefully and some of us do it out of compulsion

  3. If you want to eat there are certain facades you must maintain for survival. Enjoyed this poem . I have just written one about the same subject.

    1. I guess that's why the facades are there - for survival. Would love to read your version.

  11. Facade explored honestly through this poem. Doesn't all of us wear facade when we deal with people? A catch 22 situation.
