Nothing but fumes

Sometimes, words are born from the crack in your heart as minor as an hairline fracture, take up space in veins alongside blood forming clots in between and get caught in the lump of your throat choking your voice.

Because you cannot say them out aloud. Because saying them aloud would mean setting your world ablaze. Creating a pyre with the same hands with which you have nurtured happiness, one day at a time, using your spit as fuel and lighting the fire with your tongue. You are still sane enough to not do that.

You thus let it bite you in the pit of your stomach. You let the carcasses of your words burn in the same crack in your heart where they were born. You let them rot inside the whole of you. The stench and burden of these words will then come out of your mouth as nothing but fumes. Visible yet invisible.

Silence

A silence
That looms between us
Hanging around like summer air
Hot, humid and stifling
Relationship or not
Illicit or what
Melancholy hanging in the air
Hot, humid and stifling
I taste smoke on your lips
As your hands trace my silhouette
The silence still
Hot, humid and stifling
A joke here, a nugget there
The new music you heard
A good book that I read
A steely silence thereafter
Hot, humid and stifling
I seek the reasons of our togetherness
All I hear is silence still
Hanging around us
Like a dull ache

Hot, humid and stifling

When my soul went discreetly quiet

When the gypsy in me
Could no longer flee
Hypocrite to myself I now seem
While strangling, one by one, my own dreams
And amidst all this uprooting disquiet
I felt my soul going discreetly quiet

When people who so near
Could no longer hear
My insides tearing apart
Tiny pieces crumbling from my heart
And amidst all this uprooting disquiet
I felt my soul going discreetly quiet

When friendships that were strong
Made you feel all wronged
Facades that I couldn’t break
Trust even was put at stake
And amidst all this uprooting disquiet
I felt my soul going discreetly quiet

When everything around seemed hazy
Madness inside reached a new level crazy
Control on life was unheard of
Once silent waters now seemed rough
And amidst all this uprooting disquiet
I felt my soul going discreetly quiet

Because your soul has a way
To make you hear which aloud you can't say
It withers from the insides
Without making much noise
And amidst all this uprooting disquiet
You can feel your soul going discreetly quiet
