a
question thrown in
my
answer had me thinking
asked
somebody just like that
how
are you?
I
am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
went
through the darkness and doom
after
breaking up with you
days
and nights were nothing but blue
darkness
asked me one day
how
are you?
I am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
courage
I lacked
to
hold a new hand
or
find another shoulder to depend
dreading
the addiction that last time happened
courage asked me one day
how
are you?
I
am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
with
efforts
tried
to be up on my feet
leaving
behind my precious relationship’s defeat
following
hope
sunshine
and its fleet
the sunshine
asked me one day
how
are you?
I
am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
with
baby steps
I
walked in the direction of light
using
my gut, my strength,
my
soul’s entire might
with
fear in mind, yet faith in heart
again
to give life, one hard fight
light
asked me one day
how
are you?
I
am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
meekly,
I would myself ask
what
do you desire today?
and
my heart would in its softer voice say
a
new book to read
get
a new song to hum
keep those negative thoughts at bay
and
I would follow these little commands
the
heart asked me one day
how
are you?
I
am fine was my reply
didn’t
know if it was actually true !!
as
days turn into months
and
months roll into years
I
cover a distance today
beginning
to heal
I
feel life again getting on the reel
life
asked me one day
how
are you
I
am fine was my reply
but
this time
may
be
may
be
it’s
true!!

Thank you Swathi. Yes, its true, we answer this question at times without meaning it !!
DeleteNice poem! And BTW I am fine!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Usha Ma'am. May you always remain happy and fine :D
Delete:) how often do we lie when asked how we are. I wish we could say everything out loud, without another person judging us. Gasping out how can you say that or how can you not be over him or her. Etc etc. Why do we hide pain so easily?
ReplyDeleteMay be because we fear being judged Sabeeha. We are engineered in that way. Sigh !
DeleteAwww the flow and the expression is so beautiful. The ending so heartfelt :)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Rajlakshmi :)
DeleteOMG- what a beautiful read.. I feel her sadness coming out of your words, and the easy "i am fine" - when you are nothing but fine!! Loved her hope in the end.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Eli. I too loved her hope :)
DeleteFelt the words in that. Well done. popping by from your fb link.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Lynn :)
DeleteBeautiful piece Jyotsna! This is true for most of us...we always convince people around us that we are ok...but in reality we are not.Yet it feels good to know that in the end everything does get ok!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Vinodini. May be the reply 'I am fine' is a sub-conscious reply that we give whenever we are asked this question. Yes, in the end everything does get fine :)
DeleteHeartbreaks can be very tough. And these verses help us to bring out our true emotions. Good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nisha :)
DeleteM speechless Jyotsna at this brilliant poem straight from the heart. The heart only knows the hidden emotions and no matter how painful break ups are, we do get up and start loving life again:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Vishal for your kind words. Yes, people do get over break ups eventually :)
DeleteThis was a wonderful expression, Jyotsana!! So glad that she was truly fine in the end!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shilpa :)

ReplyDeleteThank you Chad :)
DeleteWonderful!! I enjoyed reading this so much, it took me on a little journey of memories and moments as I read and then I had to think about all the millions of times I respond, "fine" just to be done. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Conlee. Welcome to my space :)
DeleteBeautifully expressed Jyotsna! Loved it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Aditi :)
Deletethe lie that hurts the most is the one we keep telling to yourself .. beautifully expressed :)
ReplyDeleteYes, rightly said Ankur. Thanks a lot :)
DeleteThis is one of your best that I have read ... superb :-)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I just noticed that the first stanza had 6 lines, the second had 7, the 3rd 8 and so on ... is this a form of poetry? Seems really innovative :-)
Thanks a lot Amrit. Well, glad you noticed about the lines in each stanza. This isn't a form of poetry that I have read about before, just that I went with the flow and got something like this :)
DeleteEvery "I'm fine" often brings this Q, how far is this true ? I loved the tapestry of thoughts u've woven here..... Hats off, dear :)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Sreeja. Lots of love and hugs :* :)
DeleteThanks a lot Neelam. Glad you liked this one :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correctly said Ashwini :)
ReplyDeleteSo true. :)
ReplyDelete:) :)
DeleteVery nice poem, Jyot. The words come from the heart. They carry feelings which the reader can experience. They convey a message.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Tomichan Sir. Glad you could connect with my writing here :)
DeleteLovely words.
ReplyDeleteMay we always answer we are fine & may it always be true :)
Thank you Anita. And Amen to that thought :)
DeleteYes.. I guess that's the obvious reply that we have been taught to give. Thank you Ashwini :)
